Storytelling and Memory
(A picture of my best friend and I yapping because we truly do exercise storytelling to preserve memories lol)
Good stories always relate to the reader. They serve a purpose of revitalization, which is why they are often quoted to reiterate qualities of discipline, resilience, and courage.
Whether we like it or not, every story is tied to a memory, and that’s why it’s so deeply woven into our lives. We live through memories and access them through stories. That’s also why the stories we don’t tell often unsettle our memory, because they aren’t good stories and we most definitely don't want to relive that memory. Their inaccessibility deepens emotion until they eventually erupt into a layered narrative.
Recently, as I was prepping for a topic, I was reminded of how important storytelling is for memory. It helps reestablish connection, builds a bridge to preservation, and ensures that erasure is resisted, making memory tangible, even if it’s a difficult story to tell.
Anyways, that’s all I have for today. Going through a bit of a creative block. See you soon! Byee!
